Need to cool down? Avocado ice candy is creamy, refreshing, and the perfect hot weather treat. And the best part? It’s easy to make at home with only a handful of ingredients!
Ice candy is the Filipino’s version of popsicle, but instead of freezing the flavored liquid around a stick, the concoction is funneled into plastic casings which are handy for on-the-go enjoyment. These freezer pops are sold at almost every corner variety store.
They are made with a variety of tropical ingredients in season, such as young coconut, mango, melon, pineapple, and avocado, blended with fruit juice, sugared water, or milk.
If you are from the U.S. , you can purchase these plastic ice candy bags online or use popsicle molds.
Ingredients notes
- Avocado– also called alligator pears or butter fruit. For best results, choose a variety such as haas that have a smooth flesh and are less stringy.
- Lemon or lime juice- adds a refreshing kick and retards oxidation that browns the avocado flesh
- Fresh milk– adds a creamy taste. For a richer flavor, use whole milk and not nonfat. You can also substitute oat or almond milk for a vegan option.
- Sweetened condensed milk– adds sweetness, a creamy taste, and a thick texture to ice candy
Avocado ice candy instructions
- Cut the avocado in half and discard the pit. Scoop out the flesh into a clean container and drizzle with lemon or lime juice to prevent browning.
- In a blender, combine avocado, fresh milk, and condensed milk. Process until smooth or leave some small chunks if you prefer some texture. Give the mixture a taste and add sugar if desired, then blend again to combine.
- Using a funnel, pour the blended mixture into plastic bags up to ¾ full, leaving about 3 inches of plastic. Twist the remaining three inches until the tube is firm but not too tight as they might burst when frozen. Tie it into a knot.
- Arrange filled plastic tubes in flat pan and freeze for about 2 to 3 hours or until frozen.
Prep Tip
The recipe is sweet as it is for my liking. Taste test when blending and add sugar if desired. Please note that the sweetness of the mixture will mellow out when cold or frozen.
How to serve and store:
